Pictures on Film, from Kaikōura.
Gallery Exhibition
Rach / Street
Christchurch, 2026
Moving through Christchurch with Rach, using the city’s street art as a shifting backdrop.
A series built on contrast — portrait and place, subject and surface.
Each wall shifts the mood — bold, playful, chaotic — while Rach holds it steady.
Kaikōura sits between the Pacific Ocean and the Seaward Kaikōura Ranges, a place shaped by light, sea, and mountains. The landscape is raw, rugged, and constantly changing as the sun moves across it.
Film photography suits this environment. Its subtlety and restraint reflect the unpredictable light and colour that define Kaikōura.
The Kaikōura Project is produced entirely here — photographed on film, then developed and printed in a small studio overlooking the ocean. The scans are left unretouched for print, allowing the images to remain as the place itself: honest, raw, and ever-changing.
