Kaikōura on Film.
A study of Kaikōura with analogue photography.
Made in Kaikōura.
Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the towering Seaward Kaikōura Ranges on the East Coast of the South Island New Zealand, Kaikōura is raw, rugged and ever-changing. As the sun rises over the ocean and casts light on the landscape, it creates bold and vibrant colours; Kaikōura is a unique meeting of light, ocean and mountains.
The nuances of film photography are suited to Kaikōura, film harmonises the unpredictable and untamable diversity of light and colour that is the Kaikōura environment.
The Kaikōura Project is totally produced in Kaikōura; I capture pictures in our stunning surroundings using a classic camera, then develop and print in my studio which overlooks the ocean. Film scans are not retouched for print output, like the landscape, they remain raw, rugged and ever-changing.
