Kaikōura, September 2026
These are the last film photos I made with Abby. We spent hours at the beach, her favourite place, where she could just be a dog—sniffing, paddling in the creek and waves, rolling in smelly things, and chasing sticks I threw. We shared about 13 years together, and I loved every minute. She was always by my side, whether I was working at home or out on an adventure, and she always let me know when it was time for one. She will always be missed. Until we meet again, beautiful girl.

Kaikōura sits between the Pacific Ocean and the Seaward Kaikōura Ranges, a place shaped by light, sea, and mountains. The landscape is raw, rugged, and always changing as the sun moves over it.
Film photography suits this place. Its simplicity matches the unpredictable light and colour that define Kaikōura.
The Kaikōura Project is created here. Photos are shot on film, then developed and printed in a small studio that looks out over the sea. The scans are not retouched for print. The pictures remain honest, unpolished, and as changeable as the place itself.
