The slow part of Sunday

Kaikōura, 2026

Sunday morning near Middle Creek, the tide going out. The beach quiet, the day not quite begun. Cold light on wet sand, the Kaikōura Ranges just catching the dawn. The sky made an effort, a little bit of colour. Abby, nose down, somewhere ahead on the sand. These pictures belong to the slow part of Sunday.

Made in Kaikōura

Kaikōura sits between the Pacific Ocean and the Seaward Kaikōura Ranges, a place shaped by light, sea, and mountains. The landscape is raw, rugged, and always changing as the sun moves over it.
Film photography suits this place. Its simplicity matches the unpredictable light and colour that define Kaikōura.
The Kaikōura Project is created here. Photos are shot on film, then developed and printed in a small studio that looks out over the sea. The scans are not retouched for print. The pictures remain honest, unpolished, and as changeable as the place itself.
